ADR creates a requirement for companies who consign or transport or receive dangerous goods by road, rail or inland waterways, above the threshold quantities, to appoint a suitably qualified Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser (DGSA). This 5 day training course prepares candidates for the DGSA (Road) examinations, which are set by an approved qualification authority 4 times a year. The training delivers comprehensive instruction on all aspects of the DGSA syllabus for road transport.

Duties of the DGSA

  • Monitor compliance or the operation with the rules governing the transport of dangerous goods
  • Provide advice to the employer on the transport of dangerous goods
  • Prepare accident reports to the management of the company and/or the local public authority when an accident occurs during the transport or handling of dangerous goods
  • Prepare an annual report to the management on the activities of the company concerning the transport of dangerous goods

Qualifying to be a DGSA
The appointed DGSA must hold a vocational training certificate valid for the mode of transport and the hazard classes involved. To obtain this you must pass at least 3 examinations which include Core, Classes and Road (or Rail / Inland Waterway). The pass mark for each paper is 65%.
These examinations involve the candidate being able to demonstrate a significant knowledge of the relevant legislation in an open book written examination using the permitted texts. It should be noted that the examinations are of a considerably higher standard than the current AD or CPC examinations. The DGSA must pass refresher examinations every 5 years. The examinations are held on set days at set examination centres. It is recommended that the candidate books the examination separately in order to access the most convenient examination location. We can book examinations and source exam texts, where requested.

Training
Our trainers have a wealth of industry experience and so the 5 day intensive course provides practical knowledge of the regulations and is focused on developing the techniques and knowledge associated with undergoing the examinations. Emphasis is geared towards navigation of the permitted texts and practice of example questions. The course covers the syllabus laid down by the awarding body with subjects covered including;

  • Use of the regulations, Role of the DGSA, Classification, Hazard Precedence, Excepted & Limited Quantities, Package Identification and Selection, Marking and Labelling, Vehicle Requirements, Documentation, Crew Requirements, Solutions and mixtures, Tanker Requirements

This course can be delivered over 1 or 2 days and ensures that shore side personnel who are engaged in the transport of dangerous goods by sea are trained in the contents of the IMDG Code which are commensurate with their duties. These duties include; Classifying, Packing, Marking, Labelling, Placarding, Loading & Unloading, Documentation Provisions, Handling, Offering & Accepting for Carriage and Loading & Stowage plans.

All transport modal regulations in Europe place a requirement on personnel whose duties concern the carriage of dangerous goods, to be trained to a general awareness level. This 1 day course provides training in topics including; General Provisions, Training, Classification, Dangerous Goods List, Limited & Excepted Quantities, Packing & Tank Provisions, Documentation, Marking, Labelling & Placarding, Equipment, Loading, Unloading & Handling

Designed to provide candidates with more specific training appropriate to their involvement in the carriage of dangerous goods by road/rail and sea, (e.g. if a person is responsible for documentation for road and sea, then training will provide the detailed requirements necessary). This can be a bespoke course designed to meet the specific needs of your business.

Course Aims
The objective of this course is to ensure that students can prepare a dangerous goods shipment in accordance with the requirements of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations or verify that a dangerous goods shipment has been properly prepared for acceptance by an operator.

Shippers, packers, freight forwarders / cargo agents processing dangerous goods and acceptance staff responsible for dangerous goods shipments.

We provide examinations for Shippers, Operators and dual function.
First time candidates are required to sit the full 3 day course.
Candidates requiring recurrent training may sit the full 3 day course again or may be eligible to undertake the 1 or 2 day refresher.

Course Aims
To train shippers/cargo agents and acceptance staff in the safe transport of radioactive material by air.

Participants
Shippers/cargo agents and acceptance staff responsible for radioactive shipments.
Please note that prior dangerous goods training is a prerequisite e.g., attendance on a non-radioactive Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air or DGSA course.

Course Objectives
To ensure that personnel responsible for shipping radioactive material by air and sea can:

  • Understand and apply the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations with respect to radioactive material transport by air
  • Understand their responsibilities

Candidates requiring recurrent training may sit the full 2 day course again or may be eligible to undertake a 1 day refresher.

Course Aims
The CPC course covers a diverse range of transport, business and safety related topics in order to prepare candidates for OCR CPC examinations. The exam structure comprises 1 x 2 hour multi-choice examination of 60 questions which requires a 70% pass mark and 1 x 2 hour case study examination of between 5 and 8 questions which will need a 50% pass mark.

Participants
CPC meets the requirements for professional competency in an application for a standard Operator’s (or ‘O’) licence’. The Operator’s Licence is a requirement for most operators of passenger transport vehicles in the UK. Participants are likely to be owner drivers or representatives of bus/coach companies and who are applicants/holders for/of an Operator’s Licence.

This 1 day course provides an introduction to effective problem solving related to work place accidents and root cause analysis and is suitable for anyone involved in accident / incident investigations. Candidates will be taught new ways of problem solving and learn a step by step method to root cause identification and effective implementation of corrective and preventive actions as part of a comprehensive accident investigation process.

Each of these 1 day courses provide candidates who are involved in either fire management, spillage and emergency response arrangements or manual handling activities, with the knowledge and competence to effectively perform their duties. These courses will ensure candidates have an understanding of the legal requirements as well as practical knowledge to ensure preparedness and compliance.

This 1 day course provides delegates with an understanding of the key practical risk assessment techniques, legislation, ability to identify hazards, evaluate risk and implement a monitoring and review process. Delegates will learn about Hazard spotting, the 5 Steps to Risk Assessment, Perception, Limitations, Hierarchy of Risk Controls and appropriate Documentation. The course also includes a practical exercise to apply learning.

If your company is involved in the manufacture, bulk storage or warehousing of dangerous goods then, depending on quantities involved, you could fall under the COMAH Regulations and may be required to plan and prepare for an incident both on or off site. This 1 day course educates candidates in the requirements of COMAH to include; Enforcement, Aggregation Rules, Hazardous Substance Consent, Major Accident Hazards, Emergency Planning, Duties on Operators, Public Information Requirements and the Consequences of Non Compliance.
