Overcoming all obstacles in multimodal heavy-lift transport project
A German technology company needed equipment for its chemical plant delivered to Togliatti in the Samara region of Russia. Agility took responsibility for the delivery of three heavy-lift shipments sent via a combination of road freight, sea-river barge, part-charter sea freight and rail freight. The shipments originated from three separate locations: Porto Marghera, Italy (245 tons); Linz, Austria (226 tons); and Mumbai, India (73 tons). The move involved two years of meticulous preparations, including a feasibility study of local customs procedures and on infrastructure, surveying harbors, rivers, roads and potential obstacles. The most challenging part of the move occurred during on-shore movements at Togliatti port. The port's pier and on-shore cranes could not handle the massive weight of the pieces, so Agility offloaded them with special hydraulic jacks. Ultimately, the project was completed 10 days ahead of schedule.
Dedicated warehousing to help a tech giant grow its footprint in Russia
When a global tech company experienced operational issues with its current freight forwarder, Agility stepped in to resolve the customer’s dilemma. First, Agility drew up plans to manage a dedicated warehouse for the customer’s regional network development. In addition to providing handling and storing services, Agility is also transporting dismantled equipment to the customer’s consolidation warehouse outside Moscow. Beyond warehousing, Agility will also be assisting the customer with expansion plans to more than 15 new locations in Russia and providing domestic cross-docking and transportation services.
Moving 29 containers and 14 out-of-gauge loads 700 kilometers in just 2.5 months
A global beverage manufacturer needed to transport a manufacturing line from Russia to Nigeria, where 16 factories produce its beverages. Agility moved the cargo through Russia from the customer's factory in Istra, near Moscow, to St. Petersburg – a distance of nearly 700 kilometers – in 29 40-foot containers and 14 out-of-gauge loads. Once the shipment reached St. Petersburg, Agility arranged for movement to the port of Lagos in Nigeria. The shipment had to get to Nigeria in two and a half months, a timeframe that required careful planning. Agility worked closely with the customer to ensure that the technical and stowing dimensions, as well as the cargo quantities, could be accommodated by the ship's dimensions. The movement was a success, and the shipment reached Nigeria in the required timeframe.
