Agility Helps Energy Company Move Radioactive Materials
A major energy company needed a solution to transport naturally occurring radioactive materials. These products were waste materials consisting of uranium, thorium and potassium. The materials were in Brazil but needed to go to the USA for proper environmental disposal. The quantity was 424 spill drums, loaded onto 10’ x 40’ dry containers, originating in Rio de Janeiro bound for Houston.
The material had to be moved to a ground storage area to await shipment, though there was no area big enough to store such radioactive material. Initially, no carriers agreed to load the cargo and Shell had a deadline to export out of Brazil. Despite the difficulties, Agility found a warehouse to hold the material and a carrier that accepted the cargo. The shipment from Rio to Houston was executed successfully.
