Meets strict requirements for handling of essential medicines and health products

MILAN – November 25, 2019 – Agility, a leading global logistics provider, said that Agility Italy has earned Good Distribution Practice (GDP) certification, demonstrating its ability to meet stringent guidelines for proper storage, transport and distribution of medicinal products for human use.

GDP certification of Agility Italy, based in Milan, expands Agility’s continuously growing life sciences footprint, which includes 15 certified stations across Europe, Asia, Latin America and North America.

GDP practices are developed and maintained by the World Health Organization and European Union regulatory authorities to regulate the handling of essential medicines and health products.

“Pharma and life sciences logistics are highly specialized and complex. GDP certification means Agility Italy has proven its ability to maintain the safety, quality and integrity of the vital products in the pharmaceutical supply chain,” said Eric ten Kate, Agility Vice President of Life Sciences. “Agility’s life sciences specialists around the world are incredibly dedicated, and they have to be. Our practices, processes and policies ensure that consumers and their families get only the highest-quality medicines.”

President Faure Gnassingbé of Togo was joined by former British prime minister Tony Blair on Thursday to talk economic development at the Togo-UK Investment Summit in London.

Gnassingbé made his pitch to investors while announcing a new deal for a logistics hub in Lomé, after meeting with CEO Geoffrey White of Agility Africa, right, and signing letters of intent with key company officials. “It testifies to the vitality of the economic diplomacy of the Head of State and already illustrates the first tangible repercussions of his trip to London,” the presidency said in a statement.

Blair has worked closely with Togo through economic development consulting as Togo implements its National Development Plan (PND). Establishing the port at Lomé as a logistics hub on the Gulf of Guinea is a priority of the plan.

“This is a place that I think when you go and visit and get familiar with what the government’s trying to do,” Blair said, “and also the people of Togo themselves, I think you’ll be as excited as we have been to work there.”

Gnassingbé’s three-day visit to London also took him to the Invest Africa Annual Debate, where he showcased Togo’s PND plan and presented opportunities and incentives to investors. A previous stop took him to Chatham House, where he discussed West African security challenges.

The president’s London visit comes ahead of a Togo-European Union Economic Forum that begins June 13 in Lomé.

KUWAIT – April 18, 2019 – Agility, a leading global logistics provider, has been selected as the Kuwait national winner in the Industrial Project of the Year category at the 2019 MEED Projects Awards, presented in association with Mashreq.

Agility Logistics Parks received the award for its ‘4 BTS Warehouse’ project for one of the largest retail companies in Kuwait. The built-to-suit warehouses covered over 70,000 sqm of warehouse floor space and were completed in a 12-month timeframe, including design and construction.

Michel Saab, CEO of Agility Logistics Parks, said: “Agility has significant experience designing and building logistics parks and warehouses around the world. Richard Thompson, Editorial Director, MEED, said: “This year the judging panel reviewed a record number of entries from across the GCC, which affirms yet again the robust projects market in the region, amidst the challenging business landscape. Competition has been tough, and it’s great to see a strong commitment not just in completing projects, but also in meeting very stringent quality standards. Congratulations to all our national winners.”

Agility’s 4 BTS Warehouses project will now be reviewed against its Gulf rivals for the GCC honors to determine the final winners of the 2019 MEED Projects Awards.

Agility will also handle the distribution of chemical compounds, including low-density ammonium nitrate inside Egypt and the onward distribution to container ports for Carbon Holdings’ Egypt Hydrocarbon Corporation (EHC) business.

The 5 million square-meter TPC is expected to be the largest single-train naphtha cracker in the world and will be strategically located in the Suez Canal Economic Zone in Ain Sokhna, Egypt. Agility’s specialized logistics services will help us achieve our ambitious growth plans. Through TPC, we expect to be able to efficiently and effectively transport our materials around the world, given the site’s strategic location in the Suez Canal Economic Zone.”

Carbon Holdings develops, owns and operates a number of petrochemical manufacturing projects in Egypt. Once operational, TPC is expected to produce approximately 4 million tons a year of product and will be the first of its kind in the Middle East and Africa. 28,500 sqm facility expands capabilities in key market

MANAMA, Bahrain – January 10 2019 Agility, a leading global logistics provider, opened a 28,500 square meter facility in Hidd to expand its warehousing, freight, transport and specialty capabilities and serve as a regional logistics and distribution hub.

The new facility supports contract logistics with ambient, chilled and frozen storage, as well as solutions for high-value cargo. It will offer secure records management and storage and turnkey logistics for Bahrain-based manufacturers in the fast-moving consumer goods industry.

Agility is a leading provider of cross-border transportation, owning and operating a fleet of over 200 vehicles. Agility also facilitates customs brokerage for a number of multinational organizations based in Bahrain.

Essa Al-Saleh, CEO of Agility Global Integrated Logistics, said: “Bahrain is one of our key operational markets in the Middle East, offering high-quality infrastructure and a diverse community of regional business players. With an expanding population in the GCC and an increase in demand for integrated logistics services, our investment in Bahrain will help us better serve customers in the region. The opening of our new facility is a testament to our commitment to this promising market.”

The new facility, which has storage capacity of 17,000 pallet positions, represents a $10 million investment by Agility. It follows expansion of the company’s overland fleet in Bahrain to support its regional operations.

H.E. Mr. Zayed Alzayani, Bahrain’s Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, said: “The Kingdom of Bahrain is undergoing rapid economic transformation and continuing to attract international investment, with the logistics industry playing a major role towards this. The industry benefits not just from Bahrain’s strategic geographic location, but also its growing infrastructure, established transport links and policies that are conducive to fostering business. The expansion of the regional logistics and distribution hub is a natural step for Agility, who have been steadily developing their operations in Bahrain since 2003.”

A recent World Bank report estimates that Bahrain’s economy will grow by 2.6 percent in 2019, driven by higher oil production and mega projects. In 2017, the total value of foreign direct investment (FDI) reached $733 million, with the share of transport and logistics being 10 percent.

Mr. Khalid Al Rumaihi, Chief Executive of the Bahrain Economic Development Board, said: “Bahrain offers the lowest setup and operating costs for a logistics business with cost savings of 30 to 40 percent compared to the rest of the GCC. This has encouraged several companies to utilize our ports and free zones in order to set up businesses and access the Gulf Cooperation Council, and the Arab world. Agility’s investments in the local logistics industry are testament to the business confidence that Bahrain provides.”
