Managing the complex global supply chain of a high-volume retailer

Retail logisticsAgility manages the high-volume, global supply chain of a Spanish multinational clothing retailer responsible for textile design, production and distribution to 5,500 stores worldwide. With buyer consolidation at 11 origin sites in four countries and exports to four destination countries with more than 300 suppliers, some 14,000 tonnes of air volume and 120,000 cubic metres of ocean volume moved through Agility’s network in one year.

An Agility-staffed multi-country consolidation center in Colombo handles cargo originating from India and Bangladesh into Argentina and Brazil. Label inspection of more than a half-million pieces a month for southern hemisphere goods meets customer specifications. Special handling such as back-to-back charter transport is used to deftly manage seasonal cycles, spikes in demand and even emergency conditions such as the disabling volcanic ash eruption in Europe.

By offering deferred transit time service for Spain, Agility defrayed the customer's air freight costs by 20 percent. A dedicated Agility team, a single point of contact, and sophisticated technology applications ensure smooth day-to-day supply chain operations. Performance data collected by Agility is aggregated directly into the customer’s enterprise-wide resources planning system. The resulting visibility gives the retailer the enormous advantage of remaining flexible with shipment plans right up to the point of loading. The end result: tighter lead times on cargo movement, plus reduced handling and storage fees at destination. Even with demanding lead times to accommodate sourcing and distribution of finished products from diverse suppliers across the Indian subcontinent, Agility ensures its customer's stores are refreshed each week with new styles.
